Getting old or merely refining taste?
I am having the worst time resisting the khaki trench coat at GAP that Sarah Jessica Parker has been wearing in those tv spots lately. It's currently only $70, and I have wanted a trench coat for months and years now. Sure, it isn't the burberry trench that sets my heart afire, but I can actually afford this GAP coat. To buy or not to buy?
There's also a safari jacket in the same line that I covet. It would look hot with a red-and-white vintage skirt I own.
Hmmm. I am a bit disturbed that I am liking so much of GAP's spring line. Have they actually become fashionable again or am I merely trying to imitate the fearless fashionista SJP? Or have I - curse it all! - become old? Most of the junior clothing stores I haunted quite contently just a few years ago, like RAVE and Forever 21, disappoint me with low quality. Have I reached a point where I can no longer be satisfied with $9.99 polyester tops?

It would appear that when I return from London I will have a major closet purge and restocking to do.
Help me, please.

Name for me the five items you consider essential to a twenty-one year old's closet.
Even if you don't consider yourself fashion-forward and wear only Uggs, velour-sweatpants, polyester love-handle exposing halter tops, ruffles or natural-fit jeans, please participate.

1. simple short black dress, one that can be casual or dressy with the right accessories. Especially good if it has a true waistline, not dropped or empire.

2. High quality cotton (or cotton/lycra) tank tops and tees in various basic colours.

3. At least one pair of well-tailored pants that will go with everything. IMO, the best ones come from Italy and France (Vertigo makes wonderful pants).

4. A lightweight jacket that will go with nearly everything you own.

5. A feminine waist-length suit jacket and skirt (or pants) in a neutral colour. You'll need this at some point.

to buy or not to buy? i asked myself the same question today. i wanted a pair of converse (yes, i dont own any and i think it's time to do so), a puma jacket, and these beautiful crystal starfish earrings from swarovski, but did i get any of them...no :-( . i don't know if you should get that coat from the GAP. for some reason it doesnt scream suzi to me...

my essentials (i'm just being really simple here):
1. denim pants
2. purses/handbags (doesnt matter what kind as long as you have one)
3. basic black dress
4. hooded sweatshirt
4. my "my boyfriend is out of town" shirt ^_^

eh i like the safari jacket, the trench coat is much more of a 30 something look. a incredibly hot 30 something but old none the less.
