This whole hole-thing is a part of my gum reconstruction surgery, where there is no reconstruction happening at all. Rather, they are dismantling the roof of my mouth to bolster my poor gum-line, which has been receding at an alarming rate the past few years. The theory is that the new tissue will prevent the recession for proceeding, but cannot undo the damage already done. Sigh. If you've ever wondered why my teeth are abnormally long, this is why. Currently I'm to pay $943.00 for the delightful destruction, but Mom is seeing if she can't convince her insurance to pony up a few more dollars.
...and it was not good.
