Glossybox: September 2014

Curated by the digital director of Harper's BAZAAR, this month's Glossybox promised to bring the best new products and latest makeup colors from the best brands available.  As I peeked into the special edition white box, I was a bit underwhelmed because many of the items seemed familiar because I'd glimpsed them on magazine covers or on beauty blogs.

ESSIE Nail Polish in 'Madison Ave-Hue': A hot pink nail polish with subtle silver shimmer, the bottle screams both 'spring' and 'Barbie' to me.  But I am such a sucker for bright pinks that I don't even mind the unseasonal shade.  Full-sized product. $8.50

BENEFIT COSMETICS They're Real Mascara in Black: This mascara pops up ALL OVER THE PLACE.  I got it in an ipsy bag, in an Ulta promotional collection of samples, and as a birthday gift from Sephora.  It's fine, but nothing special, and something I'll never need to buy 'cause I can always count on another one showing up for free.  Deluxe sample. $7.66

BVLGARI Eau Perfume Au the Blanc Hair Conditioner: This uberfragrant hair conditioner leaves your hair feeling soft and smelling clean.  It's a white tea-scented conditioner, if you go by the name, but the baby powder scent is only faintly reminiscent of tea to me. Travel-sized sample. $15.00

VICHY LIFTACTIV Night Cream: This anti-wrinkling, firming cream should be applied nightly to optimize your skin's appearance.  It claims to hydrate and improve skin tone.  Deluxe sample. $16.67

OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE COSMETICS Lip Tar in 'Authentic': I've had the pleasure of trying OCC's lip tar before, and it's got great pigment.  Unfortunately, this copper shade doesn't suit my skin tone or my style at all.  One of the quirky things I really like about this brand is the inclusion of a small brush for more precise lip color application.  If only this had come in a pink or a red.  Full-sized product. $18.00

None of these items really had a wow factor that made me jump with joy.  I guess I had higher expectations than usual because a guest curator usually promises something really special or unique in the box.  Harper's Bazaar wasn't super creative with their selections, but at least they didn't include anything dreadful.

Glossybox is a monthly subscription box containing skincare and cosmetics. Monthly subscriptions start at $21.00 per box, but you can get a discount if you subscribe to six months or a year instead of monthly installments. For more information, visit them at their website:
