IPSY: SEPTEMBER 2015
My Ipsy bag review was delayed this month because one of the items was missing from the initial shipment, and I waited until the replacement product arrived before taking pictures. The emphasis this month is on cosmetics that create a look of autumn elegance with rich deep colors and lots of shiny metallic powders.
I really like the bag this month. It didn't photograph particularly well – the light bulbs in my office have a horrible yellow cast that distorts color – but the bag is bronze on a faux leather/vinyl, with a nice textured chevron pattern. It matches the season very well, and could be used as a small clutch for a night out. (Alternatively, it's a little longer than the regular make-up bag, so it would make a great pencil bag if one didn't mind getting the insides dirtied by lead.) The products inside seemed equally suitable for fall.
NYX COSMETICS Eye Shadow Trio: This trio of eyeshadows was created exclusively for Ipsy, and I was happy to get it because I LOVE my Nyx eyeshadow in “Nutmeg”. It's been my go-to basic color for months. The gold and brown shadows in this palette are all similar or complementary to Nutmeg, so I'll start using this in my rotation right away. Full size. $6.00
LIPTINI Lipstick in Starlet Cocktail: I love the color of this lipstick, a lovely berry red. The formula's a bit waxy, though, so it's not the easiest lipstick to apply, and the color naturally transfers EVERYWHERE. Full size. $18.00
TEMPTU Highlighter in Champagne Shimmer: A highlighter that boosts “natural radiance” around eyes, cheekbones, and so on. It's basically a highly concentrated pack of shimmer; I don't think I'd use it on a daily basis because I don't need to shimmer like a Christmas ornament. It'll last forever, though – one drop goes a long, long way. Travel size. $6.88
FORMULA X Nail Color in Ignite: I'm currently unable to use nail polish due to a problem with my nails peeling, but this is a lovely rich red shade. I'd be more excited if I didn't already have several very similar colors sitting on my shelf, but it is nice. Trial size. $3.50
BUMBLE & BUMBLE Repair Blow Dry for Dry or Damaged Hair: I like Bumble & Bumble products, but this isn't something that really fits my lifestyle since I very rarely use a blow dryer. It makes my hair frizz something awful to expose it to blasts of hot air, so I usually just air dry. I might try this serum to see just what it would do for my hair, though – as it is very dry and probably quite damaged. $3.50
Great bag, with lots of interesting and fun things in it. It's definitely one of the more useful collections I've received.
Ipsy is a subscription service that sends a cosmetics bag filled with 4-5 products every month. It's $10 per month (plus tax). If you'd like to sign up or learn more, please consider using my referral link:
