Stealth Lose to Philadelphia 10-7, or GUESS WHERE I WAS TONIGHT?

SAN JOSE – San Jose Stealth forward Gary Rosyski scored a goal and two assists on Saturday night to become the team’s all-time leading scorer with 383 points. But his three points weren’t enough as the visiting Philadelphia Wings (3-1) defeated the Stealth (2-2), 10-7, before 5,217 at HP Pavilion at San Jose.
Rosyski, who entered the game with 380 career points, picked up his first on a goal at 4:01 of the first quarter. He tied Josh Sanderson for the all-time franchise scoring record of 382 points when he assisted on Derek Malawsky’s game-tying goal nearly five minutes later. Rosyski passed Sanderson when he assisted on Jeff Zywicki’s third goal of the game at 13;59 of the fourth quarter.
Philadelphia opened the scoring within the first minute of the game as Dan Marohl scored at 49 seconds. Rosyski tied the score almost four minutes later, but the Wings answered on Jeff Ratcliffe’s goal at 4:23. San Jose tied the game on Derek Malawsky’s first goal at 8:43.
In the second quarter, Rob Van Beek scored for the Wings at 2:52. Derek Malawsky tied the game at 11:00 on assists from Zywicki and Ryan Boyle. But the Wings came back to take a 4-3 lead into halftime on Shawn Nadelen’s unassisted short-handed goal at 11:38.
San Jose opened the scoring in the third quarter when Zywicki tied the game at 2:41. But the Wings scored four straight goals to take the lead for good. The first two came 26 seconds apart on tallies by Jake Bergey at 6:14 and Chad Thompson at 6:40. Kyle Sweeney’s unassisted score at 10:24 gave Philadelphia a 7-4 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Bergey scored Philadelphia’s fourth straight goal at 23 seconds. San Jose scored a short-handed goal at 2:22 on Derek Malawsky’s third goal of the game on assists from Zywicki and Curt Malawsky. The Stealth scored their second power play goal of the game when Zywicki scored his second of the game at 4:06 on assists by Cam Sedgwick and Boyle.
Zywicki’s tally cut San Jose’s deficit to 8-6. But Luke Wiles (8:03) and Bergey (8:26) scored 23 seconds apart to give the Wings a 10-6 lead. The scoring ended with Zywicki’s third goal of the game at 13:59.
Derek Malawsky and Zywicki each had hat tricks for the Stealth. Zywicki recorded his second straight hat trick and third on the season. The rookie also led the team in scoring with five points. Boyle paced San Jose with three assists. Bergey’s three-goal game paced the Wings.
Anthony Cosmo saved 39 of 49 shots for the Stealth, while Philadelphia’s Matt Roik faced 34 shots.
San Jose converted two of five power play opportunities and Philadelphia was scoreless on four tries.

RADAR BLIPS: San Jose tied a season low for fewest goals scored. They scored seven on Jan. 13 at Colorado…Curtis Hodgson led the Stealth with seven loose balls. San Jose had 63 on the night, two shy of their season high of 65 set on Jan. 13 at Colorado…San Jose’s 10 penalty minutes tied a franchise record for fewest in a game, which had been set three times previously…The Stealth have two more games against the Eastern Division: Feb. 18 at Rochester and March 31 vs. Buffalo…San Jose concludes a string of three straight at home when they play hosts to the expansion Portland Lumberjax on Jan. 27.
