In case you've never been, the tea shop is called Lisa's Tea Treasures and it sits on the back of Santana Row, by the theatres.
(I'm borrowing the photographs from their website because Makaiju.net is a slow load, and also because our photos turned out blurry.)
It was not very crowded because we went early, around noon. I've heard that it's impossible to go in the late afternoon without a reservation, but I don't know how accurate that is. We we seated in the smaller second room, which like the largest room is a pink extravaganza. The walls are a cotton-candy pink with pink moulding on the upper half, while the bottom is a richer pepto-bismo. The china is covered in pink roses and all the waitresses (dressed as maids - they are SO cute!) wear rose-colored dresses.
For my tea, I had the Duchess' Delight, which consists of Boysenberry Tea, Ham and Cheese Quiche, Cucumber Tea Sandwiches, a Scone and for dessert, Lemon Tart. (Yum!) It was really tough to choose because everything sounded delicious. Sean got the Rajah's Prize, which had a really light Strawberry Darjeeling Tea. Unfortunately almost all the teas they have are black, and since they don't take the tea leaves out of the pot when you get near the bottom it can be quite bitter.
It's pretty expensive - $20 per person for the best plates - but it's so much fun. I want to go again and again and again and eat all the cute little foods. Everything is so wee that you don't think it could ever fill you up, then it does!
(I guess if you live in England this sort of thing isn't a big deal, but it totally is to me.)
