It's just that bad.
Mountain Dew Game Fuel really, really makes me sad.

Do explain

I do have a bias against soda, so that in itself is a big part of why I disapprove. But as whimsicalbeau pointed out I am not too crazy about the gamer culture. (I dislike that it encourages an unhealthy sedentary lifestyle, and the ease with which people row addicted to the games also disturbs me. Video and computer games, in my mind, are representative of the closed virtual worlds I think people are building up around themselves, that isolates them from others and carves out a more selfish view of the world.)

I guess I'm just cranky because while I enjoy video games from time to time and admit they have fun social purposes, I don't like that it's become such a strong focus of our culture that a soft drink corporation markets to it. (But as one who follows marketing, I think it's a fantastic example of targeting your audience. It's the sort of thing I would do if I was a marketing major.)

That makes a lot of sense, and I agree. I think I'm more passionate about not being particularly fond of how much kids play indoors, mostly playing video games. I remember when I was a kid I RARELY stayed inside... mostly on rainy days or late at night. It's unhealthy and that's why obesity rates have gone up.

I actually tried it. It's alright a little more orangey for my tastes. But dude it's got Master Chief on it and it's Mountain Dew, how could I refuse?
Thanks for the card btw! :) A flock of ducks so cute.

Yeah, you and Dew have an epic relationship. :) Do you usually like the flavored Dews? I've only ever seen you drink the regular kind.

Glad you liked the card, the Heifer Project totally made me think of you. Ducks for everyone!

While I know you aren't one to support so-called "gamer culture," this might be a great marketing move on behalf of mountain-dew -- Back in my mid-highschool heavy gaming days, we would sometimes stay up all night playing videogames in Marty's garage. To stay awake, we drank (probably unhealthy armounts) of Surge and Mountain Dew for caffine and sugar. Surge eventually stopped being made, so it was just MD and MD code red.

Before Rockstar, Redbull, and Monster, mountain dew was the "Gamer Drink," at least for us. I'm not surprised at this marketing, though I have to admit when I first saw "Game Fuel" I thought it was some sort of Energy drink being marketed at kids who play SPORTS, not video games.

Hmm. I like the taste of Code Red but I try to drink it only when I really need caffeine for energy because I'm just out of reserve energy. I don't drink coffee or colas; I usually drink non-caffeinated sodas if at all (once a week or less).

I tried Game Fuel. It didn't taste that great. They didn't have Code Red at that shop.

I'm not much of a gamer but I sure as hell don't need caffeine to stay up all night playing a fun game. :P
