Coupla quick thoughts, nothing exciting here!
Daddy works at Sun Microsystems, so of course we have been watching the Oracle/Sun buyout with interest. At this point I'm not sure if Daddy's hoping to keep his job, or get laid off. Whenever he gets laid off, that'll be his retirement, and since my Mom's retiring from teaching in June it'd be cute if they retired together. On the other hand, we like the money Daddy makes coming in. Daddy honestly doesn't seem to mind either way, but he's not always verbal so even if he felt uncertainty I doubt he'd vocalize it.

Wednesday night Melissa had a dinner party at her house with several Lush employees, current and former, in attendance. That was fun; Melissa's a killer cook. Eggrolls, stir-fried veggies, barbeque ribs, beer. Fantastic. We watched The Sweetest Thing and attempted to visit a sex shop, but tragically the store was closed so no toys for the Mels (Melissa and Melanie) Amanda and two of her friends went to Katie Bloom's afterwards, but I left my ID at home so I came home to track it down. After finding it, I sat down in a minute to decide whether or not I wanted to change into different clothes, and ended up falling asleep. Oh well. Nothing new there.

Could you guys live comfortably if your dad was laid off? Then he could hike all day, every day.

Did you ask the other Lush employees who had you for secret santa?!?!

I've totally given up on the Secret Santa thing. I've assumed some holiday staff blew me off, and there's nothing I can do about it.

We can be comfortable if my dad's laid off, no problem. My mom will still get like 90% of her salary in retirement, plus she'll do substitute teaching. It would probably just mean that home-upkeep projects we've been meaning to do for years will continue to be undone, and Mom will get to travel less.

I don't know why, but that secret santa thing really bugs me.

But then they can do things retired people do... like play golf and go on cruises. Cruises are a real cheap way of traveling.

It bugged me too, but what can you do? There's been too much turnover to even try and figure it out.

I can't imagine my parents playing golf or cruising together :-p I suspect they'll spend most of their retirement doing separate activities.
