Quickie update..!
1. No go on the house, it seems. Thanks to Seanie's poor credit history (or more accurately, almost complete lack of a credit history) he's out of the picture. I might be able to get a loan if I have a co-signer, so I'm working on Dad but at this point, I don't think it's going to happen.

2. I had a midterm this week in Mesoamerican Art. It was OK. The class is a lot harder than any of my other art history classes because the cultures and art are completely foreign to me. I have virtually no previous exposure.

3. School in general is overwhelming. Too much work.

4. Grandpa (last surviving grandparent) is beginning hospice care. I have next weekend off so I hope to go down and visit him then.

On one hand it's really good that banks are more strict on who can get a loan. On the other hand, it really sucks for us.

Sean and I can't get pre-approved on a loan until we show the bank proof he's had a steady paycheck for at least 2 years. :::sigh::: Since he's still out of a job, a house is out of the question for us now.

Midterms already?

Hope you can visit your grandpa!

Ze House
Holding thumbs for you. It's really really nice to have your own place. Heartgirl believes that what's meant to be is meant to be. When we moved to Jozi some nine years ago it was after more than six months of house hunting in a sellers market. We both had places in Pretoria some 60 km's from Jozi and we had very specific requirements. Wooden Floors, steel ceilings in its original 1930's condition. We trekked to Jozi weekend after weekend looking at show properties. After months of searching we finally found a house that fitted the bill BUT it had a pool and a huge outside bar which we didn't like. I made an offer as I was prepared to fill the pool and plant lawn where it once was and to demolish the bar. My first offer was unsuccessful, I raised it twice afterwards but the seller was holding out for an unreasonable price imo and I bailed out being quite disappointed. About three weeks later I found the house we live in today purely by chance ...and it was R60 000 cheaper (US$10 000) and it fitted the bill of what we've been looking for completely.

Re: Ze House
Nice :) Hearing stories like yours gives me hope that we'll find a good place eventually!

Seanie really needs to build some credit history. He can just open up a credit card account and not use it. Good luck with the house. Your dad seemed so gung-ho about it in the beginning, what happened?

re: dad

1/ Mom's against it, and I don't think he'll go against her wishes, unfortunately for me.

2/ He's rather distracted right now because of my grandfather; since he's the only son, the oldest child and the only child in the same state as his father when Grandpa passes he's going to be very busy managing the estate, I think.

3/ He's also distracted by the fact that Oracle's taking over operations at his office and he's got to learn all the new ropes.

That's too bad... it would have been fun to be roomies =) But hey, if it was meant to be and all that jazz. Maybe the house has asbestos or radioactive mold and we could have all died in our sleep.

Anywho, happy thoughts and good vibes and well wishes out to your grandpa!
