Homework on a Sunday afternoon...
I'm writing the essay for my CSU Summer Arts: The Art History of Florence application. Unfortunately, it's not exactly going smoothly...

Florence is one of the most fascinating cities in the world. It has given birth to men who have shaped every aspect of Italian life. Poets like Dante Alighieri, Giovanni Boccaccio and Francesco Petrarca influenced writers across Europe with their visions of life, love, heaven and hell. Through their combined body of work, the modern Italian language was created. Donatello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci were just a few of the great artists who flourished in Florence, under the patronage of the powerful banking family, the Medici. Even in the modern era, many of fashion’s finest artists hail from Florence. Their names – Gucci, Ferragamo, Cavalli, Pucci – have become famous the world over and synonymous with quality and style.

This is all well and good, but I'm supposed to be writing about my expectations for the course and my reasons for applying, not heaping praises on the city itself. Hmmmm. Gonna have to start over, I think.

Le sigh.

I think it's a great start, and you can add to it that you're expecting to immerse yourself in all those things that Florence offers - literature, art, and fashion - and experience them at their origin.
