From my day planner, for July 26:

"Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody else has thought."
-- Albert Szent-Gyorgyi***

Addendum: Being the first to think something isn't enough; you don't get credit for discovering something unless you're the first one to write it up.  Otherwise, there'd be a lot of drunk people responsible for all the great discoveries in the world.

***If, like me, you're an ignoramous who doesn't know who Szent-Gyorgyi was, Google says that he was a Nobel Prize winner who discovered Vitamin C.
