Labor Day 2011

Labor Day's a little bit depressing at the moment, because so many people are without a job. But it's still a perfect day to finish off the summer. I had made plans to hang out with Kitty and Bandaid and Kero, and for a while it seemed like we might end up shopping for bridal gowns...UGH. What a unseasonably boring way to celebrate the end of summer. I campaigned for the beach instead, but the scheduling couldn't be made to work, so we compromised with a picnic at Vasona Park in Los Gatos.

Weatherwise, it was a perfect summer day. The sun pounded down, and any longer than a few minutes would make you sticky with sweat, but in the shade the temperature was perfect. The park was crowded with families barbequing and splashing in the creeks. Children were EVERYWHERE. I guess Vasona is the place to take children, though; I think that the last time I was there would have been no older than ten or twelve.

Kitty brought her dog Barky along, and kids loved him. It seemed like every few minutes some child would toddle over to pet him or talk to Kitty about him. It was cute. Unfortunately, having a portly ball of fur really slows you down when walking...but given that I think I was the only one who wanted to take a long stroll in the heat, that was probably for the best.

It would have been nice to take a long hike - I think that was what I did last year on Labor Day - but I'm glad I was at least outdoors this year.
