I've never had a teacher suddenly leave in the middle of the semester before.

Today I was very waffly about going to my Cultural Anthropology class. I had taken a midterm earlier in the morning, so I was tired and wanted to go home. Seanie made me go back to school, which turned out to be a very good thing.

My teacher, it turns out, has ovarian cancer. One of her colleagues announced this to us when he came to take over the lecture. She has surgery next week, and chemotherapy after that. She's not coming back. She's just...gone. The professor said that she had wanted to come back to announce all this herself, but she couldn't make it in. Next week we'll have a new teacher for the rest of the semester.

It's really sad...yet somehow, not surprising. That teacher had canceled several classes, so I had been under the impression that she was sickly. But I thought she just had a cold she couldn't get over, not cancer. How scary.

She and her family are in my prayers.
