It's said that you learn something new every day. What did you learn today?
Today I learned that some scholars of Egyptology hypothesize that the corpses of beautiful and/or prestigious women would often be delayed a few days before beginning the mummification process. Apparently, necrophilia was a potential problem if the bodies were too fresh, but after a few days the embalmers would no longer be tempted, so the mummification could proceed.
Clearly, this is a fun fact that I'll have to leave out of the school tours when I do my rounds at the Egyptian Museum, but at least I can share it with you!
