Anyway, after I answer the (old) theme of the week, which I think I remember the topic, I will give you moment-to-moment details of my delightful trip! Oh, aren't you excited? Thrilled? Every little detail will be spelled out for you!
But first, the theme of the week. I think it was something like "What do you want to be doing in 20 years? Where do you see yourself?" And if that isn't what it was, too bad, 'cuz that's what I'm writing about today!
So...here we go!
In 20 years, I will be the CEO of the one of the most innovative and gosh-darn-cool comic book companies in the world. This company will release both domestic USA comic books and translated Japanese manga, all of which will be especially deep and wonderful and have DAMN GOOD ART, thank you very much! I have a business plan and everything, how cool is that?
I will start this grand company after I graduate from UCSD in 2006, and by 2010 we will have at least 10 comics/mangas running in a "phonebook" size monthly publication. It will be a tasteful selection of the best I can find in both English and Asian-Manga. (I hope to start exposing Americans to some of the better Korean manga...^^;;) We will also have graphic novels published in accordance to the original manga or as necessary for new works... And there will be, in true American fashion, five or six solo storylines that have their own comic book all by themselves.
By 2015 (hopefully sooner!) we not only will have comic books, but will be subtitling the anime that may accompany the stories as well. Much as I hate dubbing, we may have to do that as well, but you had better believe we'll do a better job of it than those jokers who get to do it now! ^^;; American animation seems to have okay VAs most of the time - we'll try to hire the way Batman: Animated Series/Batman Beyond did, since whatever formula they used worked pretty well. Around the same time we will start animating our own features, as well. Hire all those animators Disney fired, or something.
By 2020, we'll be more popular than Viz and threatening to knock Marvel and DC off the top of the charts.
Or at least, we'll try.
In a related note, if anyone thinks they would be interested in working for...errr...I mean with me, let me know and we can start plotting to take over the world through the entertainment media.
