Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park

Seanie and I went hiking at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park this afternoon.  It was a lovely day for it - sunny, but cool, especially in the shadows of the redwood grove.  The trees here are massive - the oldest ones are between 1,500 and 1,800 years old.  The main area, the Redwood Grove, is especially impressive because many of these old growth trees haven't been cut down, so you have a ton of the oversized trunks surrounding you. They don't grow very thickly, but they filter the sunlight in such a way that they create beautiful patterns of light and shadow.  I'd love to paint it someday, but for now I just have a couple of pictures.

My camera wasn't cooperating with me very well - a  lot of my pictures turned out blurry or washed out - including most of the pictures I took of Seanie, or that he took of me.  But here's a couple of us:

I'm going to try to hike more often - when you're wandering through the trees, with the cool, damp air filling your lungs, it feels amazing.  Far more real than the icky dead world of the city.
