IPSY * JUNE 2013
When I saw that the theme for June would be "On the Wild Side" I was a little bit worried. Animal prints are not my thing, and this theme practically promises cheetah spots or tiger stripes! And...? Flashy colors, I imagine. Bright reds and blues and greens, like tropical bird feathers. I'm thinking there will be some crazy eye stuff this month. But they couldn't do a whole bag like that, so what else? Well, June is the start of summer. Maybe they'll put something with sun protection in? Maybe one of those "animalistic" perfumes that is heavy on notes of amber or musk.
Oh man, did I call that bag or what? Loudness of the print aside (and the neon zipper - ugh!) I actually like the shape of the bag. I prefer the zipper on the side of the bag instead of across the top. If only it wasn't cheetah, which I find truly hideous. Maybe I'll give it to my mom - I've noticed that lately she's been going through an animal print phase.
Well, there are five items in the bag. What did we get?
Starlooks Lip Pencil in Bare - I'm actually really happy to see a Starlooks product in this bag. I've heard really good things about them - and I've heard that they have an excellent monthly subscription box similar to Ipsy, except that it's all their products. Unfortunately the pencil I got is pretty dark for my skin tone so I don't know if I will actually use it. These lip pencils have a sticker price of $12.00, so that's the cost of the Ipsy bag in one product.
NYX Mosaic Powder Blush in Truth - This is another product that interests me. I've never actually used one of these multi-color blushes before, and I'm curious to see just how different it is from a normal, single-color blush. Retails for $7.00. There is a small problem, though - the blush's lid is broken, which means I can't carry this around with me without spilling powder everywhere. The clear plastic bit popped right off. How annoying.
J. Cat Beauty Sparkling Cream Palette in Volta - I like sparkles and I like eyeliner, so this palette should be fun. These dark and metallic colors will be good for dramatic fall looks or for a night at the theater. I'm really glad that I got this color combination, too - Jeans got one that had five variations on copper and earth tones - that would be dreadful on my skin. Sells for $4.49 on J. Cat Beauty's website.
J. Cat. Beauty Fake Eyelashes (and Glue) - How weird to get two items from the same company in one bag. I can't say I'm terribly excited about fake eyelashes - while I love them for special events, I'm too lazy to apply them myself so the only time I'll likely use this is if I'm in another wedding and have a make-up artist painting my face. They aren't particularly expensive, either - only $3.99.
Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil - Every Ipsy bag seems to have one item that I can't process beyond "Huh? WTF is this?" and June's bag is no exception. What on earth is a highlighter pencil? According to the product website, a highlighter pencil will brighten my eyes, thin my nose and work other miracles. So I guess it's no different from your basic highlighting powder, save that when I use it in this format I will literally feel like I'm drawing on a face. At $18.00 per pencil, this is the most expensive item in the bag - I'm quite surprised.
So if I were to go to a store to buy all this stuff, it'd cost me between $45-$50. I guess that's not a bad deal, but I wonder how much of this I'll actually use. We'll see, I guess!
My Ipsy referral link, if you would be so kind as to use it, is here: http://www.ipsy.com/?refer=u-hce07h21gn2exvq Last month, someone was kind enough to do just that, and as a result Ipsy sent me a little bonus item with my June bag. It was this bracelet:
The bracelet isn't my style at all, so I'll probably end up giving it away, but it was a nice surprise.
