Ipsy: January 2014
IPSY: JANUARY 2014

Each Ipsy bag as a theme, and this one was "19 Reasons", which is rather weird.  Why 19?  Is it because Buzzfeed really likes to make "19 Reasons" lists?  Probably.   I'm not sure whether I should be thinking "19 Reasons My Face Looks Better" or "19 Reasons Why 2014 Will Be Awesome" or "19 Favorite Shades of Nail Polish."  It's just a weird little theme.

I'm as fond of beauty products as the next girl, but printing them on the outside of my bag?  I can't say that I see the point.  It's not one of Ipsy's best bag designs.  It's also got this awful, musty chemical smell that reminds me of mothballs.  I can not use this bag until it's aired out for a few weeks, and perhaps even then I might just bin this one because it's so unattractive.  But let's stop looking at the bag and start playing with its contents!

Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Eye Pencil in "Penny": I got this shimmery pencil in copper.  I'm not sure if I'll use it or not, to be honest.  I already have a copper pencil from Sephora, but it's old so I rarely use it, especially since the color doesn't do much on my skin.  The Elizabeth Mott pencil is much more subtle, though, and it looks like it might blend pretty well.  This half-sized pencil would cost $7.50, if you divide the retail of full-sized pencil by two.

Nourish Organic Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion: I can definitely smell the rosewater in this!  It really is light!  When I put it on, I could feel it soak in almost immediately.  I don't think it's quite moisturizing enough that I can use it as my sole moisturizer, but it's pleasant for "touch ups" throughout the day.  A full-sized bottle costs $21.99, so this 1/3-sized sample will be valued at $7.33.

LeeAnni Eco 3 in 1 RevoLotion: This combination product claims to be toner, serum and moisturizer in one amazing product!  The sample is tiny, much smaller than I've come to expect from Ipsy.  It's maybe $1.00 worth of lotion?  On the plus side, the cream has virtually no fragrance and soaks in very quickly. Time will tell - if it is the miracle it claims to be, it'd be much cheaper to buy one bottle of this versus separate products, but I'm skeptical that it will live up to its claim.  Hopeful, but skeptical.

MICA Beauty Tinted Lip Balm in Natural: This is a sort of terracotta color in the pot.  It goes on a little pinker against my skin, but it really is a natural/neutral lip balm.  Unfortunately, it's very thin and doesn't feel moisturizing at all.  Ipsy was also giving away a pinker balm; I wish I'd gotten that one.  Oh well.  MICA sells the lip balm for $30 each (which does not seem worth it!) but that's in a fancier package that comes with a brush and possibly more product.  I'm gonna hazard a guess and estimate this is worth about $12.00.

Sexy Hair Healthy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner: I'm always willing to try new wonder products for my hair, since it's so long and prone to damage.  Ulta.com sells these trial-sized conditioners for $6.00 each.

All in all, I'd say this bag was a bit of a mixed bundle.  On the one hand, more skincare!  Hooray!  I always love that stuff.  But on the other, neither of the cosmetic colors are really ones I want to use.  Boo.   Well, with about $33.83 in product it's still a good deal.  I do always enjoy that aspect of Ipsy.
