2014 New Year’s Resolutions: March Update

Two months in and I still haven't worked on the vast majority of these resolutions.  It's been a while since I worked two jobs AND went to school, and I'm really feeling the difference in age between what I can handle now and what I could handle at twenty-three.  I really, really need to get into better shape so that I'll have the energy to tackle more of these projects!

Ride a bike.

Put hair in a bun that stays all day.

Get published.

Be able to hold a ten minute conversation in Spanish.
My reading comprehension continues to improve, but the same old trouble constantly comes up when it comes to speaking the language.  In my mind, I have to hear what someone has said, mentally translate it to English, figure out what my response would be, mentally translate that to Spanish, and then say it out loud.  I just can't do this at a conversational speed!  I know, I know.  This will get better with practice, I'm told.  But it's very very discouraging in the meantime!

Complete 12 paintings.

Travel somewhere new.

Exercise 60 minutes a week; by the end of year expand this to 210 minutes a week.

I have started wearing a pedometer every day, just to see how I'm doing.  I figured I was probably doing about 10,000 steps a day, which is considered decent - but no, most days I average about half of that!  That was really an eye opener.  I'm trying to focus on having a less sedentary lifestyle so that even when I'm not exercising, I'm getting more physical movement in.

Get a job!
Hired by the SFMOMA.
But that position has officially ended, so

Get a job!
is back on the list.

Take some f*cking Chemistry.

Sew a dress.

Eliminate the backlog of “to be posted” blog entries.
Up from 125 to 135.
Ouch.  This is the opposite of my intentions!  'Tis the curse of being so busy, I suppose.

Eliminate my backlog of books for review.
Down from 29 to 27.
This isn't as much progress as I would like, but at least the number of to-be-reviewed didn't go up, too!  It seems like I can manage to get one blog's backlog down in a month, but never both at the same time.

Do something new.

Do something else new.
I feel like I should focus on knocking out more of the old before tackling yet another new thing, no?
