IPSY: APRIL 2014
In April, Ipsy geared up with a music-themed "Beauty Rocks" bag. I immediately started hearing that ol' Jem and the Holograms theme song looping around in my head. This month's bag should be colorful and edgy, with glamour and glitter, fashion and fame...truly, truly outrageous.
The physical bag is about the size of a CD case, and a record is screen-printed on it. It's pretty cool! The dimensions are a little odd for a make-up bag - I don't think I've seen a square bag before - but I can definitely see using this for holding other things. In fact, if I were to sew on a strap I think this would be a really cute purse for summer concerts. Time to get crafty!
Giant false eyelashes? Heavy eyeliner? Sparkling nail polish? There's definitely some color and some flash with this collection, and it does make me think of rock stars. But how much of this stuff will I actually use? I'm not sure.
Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm in Apple Pink: I got one of Cailyn's tinted lip balms in my September glam bag, but the bright red color didn't suit me at all. I was pretty disappointed, so when I saw the familiar bottle shape I thought, "Oh boy! I get to try this again in a color that will be more flattering!" Except...it's not. "Apple Pink" is a sort of melon-nude that is much too orange for my skin. Maybe I can convince my friend Kero to trade with me - she said she got some sort of electric pink color, and I'd much rather go with something bright and loud then this weird muted color. $19.00.
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant: This small sample tube probably contains enough product for 2-3 uses, but that's enough to determine whether the cream will be too harsh for my skin. I've heard of this brand before, but I've never tried it because it's quite pricey! The full-sized microdermabrasion scrub, for example, costs $78.00! But this was voted "Best Scrub" by Allure magazine in 2012, so maybe it's worth it. $9.75
Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet: Score! Urban Decay is, hands down, my favorite eye liner manufacturer so I know I will use this and love it. I don't see much of a difference between this and my other black Urban Decay liners, but this doesn't smudge as much as the others. That's exciting. The travel sized pencils aren't sold individually, but based on the kits I've seen they would cost between $4.00-$6.00.
Rainbow Honey Nail Polish in Midnight Fountain: On the one hand, I love this nail polish! Blue is probably my favorite color for manicures. On the other hand, glitter is such a pain to take off that I usually avoid using it. So I don't know if I'll actually wear this more than once or twice... I'm not sure how much the nail polish costs, and the website was down when I went to check, so I can't value this one. Sorry!
Such a Tease Eyelashes in So Seductive: The only time that I wear fake eyelashes is when a professional is around to apply them for me. I'll probably never use these. $2.99.
I might not use everything, but I have to admit that everything suits the "Beauty Rocks" theme really, really well.
