Ipsy: December 2014

Interesting choice of theme by Ipsy for closing out the end of the year.  I expected something glittery and sparkling for the holidays, but instead the bag they sent out looks very basic, as if they're already mentally prepping subscribers for the fresh new year up ahead.  A note on the back of this card thanks subscribers for a year "filled with beauty, laughter and inspiration."  I don't know what expect...something pink to match the card?  Basics like mascara and face moisturizer?

The bag is nice.  It's made with an attractive satin fabric and has a cute little pink plastic heart keychain with the ipsy logo on it.  Honestly, it would make a decent clutch - if I could ever go somewhere with a bag that small!

Of course, it's the contents that really matter.  What have we got here?

PRECISION BEAUTY Eyelash Curler: Everyone needs a basic curler, right?  I'm pretty happy with the one I have now from Shu Uemura, but I always have trouble getting the lashes at the edge of the eye to curl so if the shape of this one manages to catch those little stragglers, I'll switch over immediately with no regrets. $5.00

PIXI BEAUTY Fairy Dust in "Brightening Bare":  This really is bare!  A nude shadow with just a hint of shimmer, this could be used as a highlighter as well as an eyeshadow.  This will be a great shadow to wear with my glasses, when I don't want to look like I'm wearing make-up anyway.  It's a full-sized product, too, so this will probably last a long time. $10.00

TARTE 4-in-1 Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara:  Tarte's a brand with a pretty good reputation, but I've never tried one of their mascaras.  I think it's about time to replace my mascara, so this will go straight into the rotation.  Deluxe sample size. $10.00

COOLWAY Hair Repair Serum:  They call this a serum, but it's actually a hair mask.  That is, you have to wash it out after a few minutes, not leave it in.  I'm always up for trying anything that will help prevent breakage or repair damage, since my hair likes to get caught in everything and it's starting to look pretty ratty. $3.75

NYX Butter Lip Balm in "Marshmallow": Eeew, nude lip product.  This color always looks orangish on me, and hideous.  Pretty much any other color would be better.  If only this had been fuschia or red... $6.00

Nude lipstick, nude eyeshadow, mascara, hair mask, and eyelash curler...yup, this is definitely a "back to basics" sort of bag.  It's not a bad assortment - I'll use about half of the items for sure.  I'll see if I can swap the lip balm for a different color.

Ipsy is a subscription service that sends a cosmetics bag filled with 4-5 products every month. It's $10 per month (plus tax). If you'd like to sign up or learn more, please consider using my referral link:
