We're in the thick of summer now, and here in San Jose that means HOT. I don't want to wear makeup save for the bare essentials, because sweat will make an color on my skin run like crazy. I don't know how much Ipsy might factor weather into their offerings each season, but I'm hoping for stuff that would be appropriate at music festivals and at other outdoor venues. (Not that I go to festivals anymore, but summer the best time to rock that whole bohemian grunge vibe.)
Maybe I'm thinking about music festivals and outdoor concerts because of the bag. It has that pseudo-Native American zig-zag pattern in bright colors that is super-trendy on bags and long sweaters. To me, busy patterns like this are more of a fall thing than summer, but it's a cute bag nonetheless. It's made of a rough canvas with the design screenprinted on, and the inside is fully lined with turquoise fabric.
Crown Brush Professional Tweezers: Tweezers might seem a weird thing to include in an ipsy bag, but it's such a basic tool that everyone needs them. I have a pair already, of course, but I have a tendency to misplace it so having a backup is really handy. These area really sharp at the end - when I was testing them on some arm hair the tips cut right through the hair instead of gripping it. It's a little weird. Full size. $6.99
Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics 2-in-1 Shadow/Liner in Bronze: This is a nice rich bronze that goes on pretty easily. It doesn't have the greatest lasting power, as the color rubs off pretty easily, but it doesn't smear, which is rather nice. Better to have faded liner than smudgy raccoon eyes, right? It's a good, subtle color for a minimal summer look. Full size. $15.95
Octavio Molina Hair La Playa Salt Spray: This is going straight into the "trade" pile. I don't use salt spray, especially since my experiments with samples previously sent in subscription boxes always ended in disaster. Travel size. $7.75
Vasanti Cosmetics Brighten Up! Exfoliating Cleanser: It's always important to have a clean face, but with all the sweat and stickiness of summer heat it's doubly (triply?) important. I've used papaya cleansers and masks before and it's a great ingredient - always seems to leave the skin feeling a little smoother. Travel size. $8.50
Teeez Cosmetics Read My Lips Lipstick in Killing Me Softly (coral): Why did they have to choose coral? I would have been happy with a pink or a red, but coral lip color is so icky on my skin. Such a pity - I love lipsticks and probably would have used this all the time. Full size. $22.00
Ipsy is a subscription service that sends a cosmetics bag filled with 4-5 products every month. It's $10 per month (plus tax). If you'd like to sign up or learn more, please consider using my referral link:
