Ipsy: November 2015

A blast from the past or a blast from space?  A retro beauty bag would be pretty cool.  Thick dark eyeliner, bright red lips.  But a cool space-age look with eye-popping brightness would be fun.  Based on the design of the actual bag, I'm leaning towards space age.  I love this photo galaxy print, though.  It's really cute!

SMASHBOX COSMETICS Full Exposure Mascara in 'Jet Black': Mascara frustrates me.  It seems like beauty advisors are always saying something like, "One of the easiest ways to pep up your look is a quick swipe of mascara!  Longer lashes will make you look more awake and give your eyes a polished look."  That's great, except when I use mascara it ALWAYS turns out clumpy and gives me raccoon-eye.  Brand, mascara formula, or the shape of application brush just don't seem to matter.  I also run into problems whether or not I curl the lash first. I've watched plenty of Youtube tutorials and just don't know what I'm doing wrong.  This Smashbox mascara might be great, but it failed just as much as all the others.  I'm just not a mascara girl.  Travel size. $8.11

DERMELECT Me Peptide Infused Lacquer in 'Commando':  This is a neutral pinky-brown.  It's not a color I would pick for myself.  That's too bad, because I am intrigued by this polish.  It claims to be "peptide-infused" (whatever that means) and helpful to weak, fragile nails.  Right now I can't even use nail polish because my nails have become so brittle; what if this is a brand that would not exacerbate my problem?  But this color just isn't for me.  Full size. $14.00

ABSOLUTE NEW YORK Nano Liner in 'Black': This liquid liner has a really tiny point nad really rich pigment.  If I wasn't so awful with this kind of eyeliner, it would be great for creating really dramatic looks.  I prefer pencils, but when you want to do a cat's eye liquid is the way to go.  Full size. $9.99

TRESTIQUE Mini Matte Lip Crayon in 'Florence Fig': Another pinky-brown nude, this time for the lips.  It has a nice creamy texture and goes on smoothly.  Travel size. $10.67

COOLWAY Strong Hold Spray: Volumizing hair spray?  A year ago, I would have sighed and thrown this straight into the swap bin.  But the words "no frizz" caught my eye.  I switched conditioners a few weeks ago and my hair has been extremely frizzy ever since. I'm getting pretty desperate for something to calm it down.  The website and sketchy-looking packaging doesn't give me a lot of faith in the product, though.  Travel size. $3.02

Lots of plain colors in this bag.  I'm a little disappointed.  I expected a bright nail polish or a colorful metallic eyeshadow.  Instead I got a lot of basics, which I'm well-stocked on after the last couple of years.  Maybe it's time to give Ipsy a rest?

Let's see what December brings...
